South Yorkshire police are cracking down on drunk drivers, after nearly 200 people were arrested last December.

Officers will be carrying out breathalyser tests at the side of the road to make sure everyone is under the limit.

Roads Traffic Inspector Jason Booth said: “We are urging everyone this year to think, is it worth it?

“You can plan ahead, book a taxi, organise a lift, but please don’t get behind the wheel.

“£20 for a taxi is nothing compared to the devastation you could cause by driving over the limit.”

He added that you may still be over the limit the day after a night out, which can be just as dangerous.
